John and I have been looking really hard at adoption lately. One thing that has really intimidated us is the cost. A domestic adoption in the states can cost anywhere from $7,000 to $20,000. An international adoption costs about twice that.
It all seems really overwhelming for a newlywed couple. We still haven't finished furnishing the house and haven't paid off the furniture we owe on now. Not to mention plane tickets to the states to see our families which are about $2,000 a peice. It seems like every cent we save is spent too soon.
There are things like the Adoption Tax credit and military subsides that we plan on taking advantage of, but most of those can only be filed for after the adoption is final.
Some of the sites I've been reading have mentioned fundraising as a way to raise money for an adoption. I don't know how many people read this, but would anyone be willing to donate to our adoption fund. I'm not asking for money now. I just want to see if this would be well recieved before I mention it to John. He's very much a man in the way that he won't want to accept money from other people. All comments on my blog are moderated so if you don't want you comment published I won't, but please make sure you mention it.

From personal experience, we didn't get very far with fundraising...we opened up our online mall, put a donate button on our blog, sent letters, and I think 3 people donated. Our church raised a lot of money for us by doing a yard sale and we borrowed $10k from my mum, and paid her back when we got our adoption tax credit. We also borrowed from the bank and used all of our tax refund money. We used frequent flyer miles where we could. We traveled to Ethiopia twice and our tickets alone for 2 trip were $10k. Our adoption overall was about $30k, thats including the travel so depending on where you are adopting from and what type of visa you will get for your child, your expenses could be a lot less. Still, it's a lot to think about and I wish you all the best in your adoption journey. Finances were a major concern of ours, we had run out of money and had to get a loan from the bank at the last minute because our air fare tickets doubled (due to short notice travel arrangements). Not to scare you please don't think that. Expenses are spread out which is a good thing, at least you can sort of budget for it. We also sold one of our cars to get more money. It surprised us but we managed to pay it all in the end, I think God had a lot to do with it though :-).
Anyway good luck and I wish you all the best in your adoption journey!!
